Very Bad Day

4/4/07... This is the third day in a row that Kelby has been acting abnormally crabby. I noticed that she has been pulling at her ear so much that she's scratched her head. So, when I got into work, I called the ENT to get her checked out before leaving for our trip to Indiana for Easter. He can't see her, so I called the pediatrician and got her in. I left early from work to take her to the doctor. Sure enough, she has another war infection. This time her right ear is clear, but there is a puss buildup behind her left ear. Yet another antibiotic to try. Because I really didn't feel like going back to work or taking her back to school, we went to the pharmacy. It took a while to get the medicine filled, so when we got home I nursed her a little. Then we decided to play. We were having a good time until she slipped an fell on her toy block. She really banged pretty hard...on her right ear. So now she has in infection on the left and a giant bruise-welt on her the right. She hadn't eaten any solid food for a while, so I took her into the kitchen to eat. She was sitting on the floor looking all cute, so I gave her some banana to eat. She really liked it a lot. We've been very slowly trying out more solid food pieces to transition away from puree. Anyway, after a bit, she isn't satisfied eating the banana from my finger, she has to do it herself. Well, I want her to learn how to feed herself, so I gave her a big hunk to eat. She was doing such a good job. She was biting little chunks out of the bottom of the banana with her two bottom teeth. Next thing I know it's smeared all over her eyebrows. No biggie, she needed a bath anyway. Here's where the real fun begins. We're just playing along with our new turtle toys, so I washed her up pretty quick. I was letting her play a little longer when I noticed she was sitting funny, leaning over to one side. Then, she started burping, but it was very strained. Of course the gears in my head are turning pretty slowly, because as I figure out what's about to happen...it happens...she craps in the tub. I'm feverishly trying to get the toys out and into the sink, as she continues to poop the tub full. I got her out and put her on the rug and started draining the tub. As the tub is almost drained I look over at her and she's shivering like crazy. I wrap her up in a towel and hold her close to warm her up. Time for lotion and jammies, maybe another little nursing and bed time. I'm drying her off, and I hand her some stuff to rattle so I can get her diaper on her. It happened to be a medicine bottle and eye drops bottle. As I reach around for the diaper I hear this blood curdling scream. I quickly turn back around to see what's going on. I can't tell at first....then there's blood. She bit the top of the eye drops bottle and broke the skin on her upper gum. so, i packed her mouth with diaper wipes trying to get the bleeding to stop. I got her dressed, skipped the lotion, and we went to the kitchen for an ice cube. That really fixed us up. Finally, we nursed and went to bed. Maybe I should have just taken her back to day care!
