Well, April 12
th was the big day. We arrived right on time for our appointment, not good patient
etiquette mind you. We got back in a hurry, only to find out that in fact we were getting a shot...the flu booster. Before the shot, we got to do the fun stuff like get weighed.
This time Kelby sat on the scale, it was really funny, and she weighed in at 21 pounds 13 ounces. Then it was off to the measuring table: 29"!!! Last, she got her head measured...18". She's now in the 90
th percentile for everything.
We didn't have to wait long before the doctor came in and checked her over. He checked her ears and claimed her ears were fine (we later found out at our
ENT checkup there was still fluid in both ears) and her
stridor almost unrecognizable. He felt for her soft spot, looked in her eyes, nose, and throat, checked her hips and her crotch-
ola, and declared her fit as a fiddle (okay he didn't say that but it made a good ending to the sentence). He did tell me to talk, read, and sing to her everyday. At the last checkup (6-mo) it was kinda cute when he said it, like go get kiddie
CD's and learn all those songs you swore you'd never forget. This time when he said it i thought "do people really need to be reminded of this part of parenting?" The answer must be yes, or it wouldn't be a suggestion.
After he left us, it took forever for the nurse to come back with the flu shot. Kelby was starting to go crazy (just fussy from wanting to eat and me wanting to hold off as long as possible) so i decided to nurse her. She was going like crazy, like she hadn't eaten in weeks. Right as she as finishing the nurse came in. Great timing actually. Kelby usually is so groggy after a good nursing that she drifts off to sleep. She went back to sleep and the nurse administered the fretful shot...like always, 2 seconds later Kelby was right back to sleep...and on the way back to school.
