Early Birthday Party

June 28th (my birthday) Chris smoked 30 pounds of butt's in his smoker with his new digital remote smoker thermometer. I took Kelby to school to get some shopping done and hopefully some housework, but the grandparents got here earlier than we thought (so I didn't finish my housework). I picked up Kelby from school, and we went home and just hung out for the rest of the night. June 29th (Jen's birthday) I cooked all day (wanted to make all the side items on the day of the party, because I don't have enough oven space to reheat so much stuff). Which was good for all the visitors, because they got to play with Kelby. We lassoed the neighbors into coming to the party, and we had a party started at 4pm. It was a blast. We had tons of food and plenty of cake. We also made Kelby a little cake for herself. I put a big "1" candle on it. We had been practicing blowing, but when it came down to it..she was trying to grab the flame!! She did get a hold of the candle, and I quickly got it from her, but she didn't seem to know what to do with the cake. up until that point, she'd never seen cake, and only had a few tastes of ice cream. Chris had to poke it for her to get her to even think about trying to eat it. It was cute. She did stick her hand in it, but it was funny...she wasn't sure if she should lick her finger or not. Usually when she gets something on her hands, we wipe it off right away, and she had that look on her face like we should be wiping her hand. June 30th (grandpa great's birthday) we went to the zoo. The zoo was about an hour or so away, and it was a gigantic zoo. It was split into "Africa" and "North America". We started in Africa. The lunch pavilion was between Africa and North America. We were pretty much done at that point. It was soooooooooooooooooo hot, but what the hey, what else did we have to do? We trucked on. I think Kelby had a good time. She really liked the stuff she could see up close (like the animals & fish in the water you could see from below). She could see some things from her stroller if they were close enough, and she seemed interested in what she could see. I think it would be even cooler to take her again when she can climb on the rails to see stuff, and can talk and ask questions about what she sees. Hopefully next time, it's not so blazin' hot. She finally fell asleep right as we were waiting for the tram to take us back to the parking lot. Her stroller was soaked where he head had laid. She stayed awake for the ride home, playing with grandpa bruce in the back seat, but she slept really good that night!!
