No Nursing Blues

Well, instead of just going cold turkey and not nursing her after midnight the night before surgery...i decided to "practice" for a few nights. BAD IDEA! Let me clarify, it turned out great for her, when we got to the hospital she had so much stuff to play with that she didn't notice that she might possibly be hungry. The bad idea is related to my milk supply. I also started the south beach diet again. Last time I did it, I only lost 8 pounds in 2 weeks, so I hadn't expected to lose much wieght. Well, after 6 days I finally decided to get on the scale and i was 13 pounds lighter!! Just so you know, a nursing mother is only supposed to lose 1-2 pounds per week (toxins get released and all that jazz). On top of that, my birth control order got messed up and I had to go get the shot again (DEPO, because that's the only BC a nursing mother can take...progesterone only version). What was the result you say...about a 75% reduction in milk production. I quickly went back to nursing her 2-4 times per night (meaning 2-4 times after her official bed time), drinking as much water as I could hold, and pumping more often at work. I've been ablt ot increase my milk supply, but I'm still about 25% short of where I was before all this started. I'm pretty sure that's due to her not wanting to nurse as much because she's relaly starting to get mobile (almost walking!!). She has better things to do than sit around and nurse, and you'll learn when you force...THEY BITE!!
